Experience Lucca... make memories!
Food-on-the-go
Some of the best pizza by the slice can be found on Via Buia at 'Da Felice'. Try their 'Cecina' from ground chickpeas, egg and flour. Yum.
Tessieri on Via Santa Croce make a delicious integrale (wholemeal) foccacia with fresh mozarella and salad.
Alimentari's, (except Sunday or Wednesday afternoon) are also good for 'food-on-the-go'. Various types of cold meat, salami, cheese, fresh bread, bottled water and other drinks. Many alimentari's will also heat hot food.
Otherwise Casoli on Via Guinigi can make a scrumptious 'foccacia di mais' (with corn and sunflower seeds). Ask for it filled with slices of 'pecorino stagionata' (tasty cheese) and prosciutto cotto (cooked) or crudo (cured). Supposed to be a local secret. oops.
Restaurants
Take a 10 minute taxi out to Damiani Ristorante on Viale Europa, just before autostrada turnoff for A11 Firenze-Mare. Fabulous menu including seafood, this is some of the best dining you will experience in Lucca. A great wine list and the atmosphere is warm. Ask for Antonio or Stefania.
Buca San Antonio is like a Lucchese institution and the menu is excellent quality. Go here to experience authentic food, typical of the region.
Cafe's/Bars
Tessieri, via Santa Croce, 35
Wonderful bar/cafe for some of the best coffee, croissants, panini, or to take an aperitif. They also have a unique range of gifts such as biscotti, oils or wines. Ask for Laura or Federico.
